Charity Mile 2007 - Saturday 23rd June Date Posted: 18/05/2007

Most of us take many things for granted. Things like being able to meet up with friends when and where we want to, or being able to walk down to the local shop. However, for some people these things may be difficult or almost impossible. We all know that many parents act as unofficial ‘taxi’ drivers, but a disabled teenager, in a wheelchair, is even more dependent upon others for transport, so that they can meet up with friends, attend a youth club, or have an evening out. Rose Road Association, a local charity working with disabled children, and their families, have launched their ‘Wheels Appeal”, to raise money for two adapted minibuses, a people mover and car, to enable young people to get to play groups, youth clubs and outings.

This year we have chosen the Rose Road Wheels Appeal as the major beneficiary of the sponsored walk.

The Charity Walk is one mile in length, and while that doesn’t sound much, for the majority of the participants, who may normally only be able to walk short distances inside, it will be the equivalent of running a marathon. Whilst many will walk the distance, others may self propel themselves in their wheelchair.

The Walk is being held on Saturday June 23rd, at Therapeutics Clinic, Trojans Club, Stoneham Lane, Eastleigh, from 11am onwards. There will also be a barbeque, various stalls and fun activities for all ages.

To request a sponsorship form or for further details on any aspects – assisting on the day, helping with stalls or participating – then please contact Elizabeth Richards or Nyssa McNeill at Therapeutics on 02380 653707 or info@therapeutics-southampton.co.uk
